- https://www.licor.com — In 1967 a large project was started at the Agronomy Department of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln (UNL) to develop sorghum as a world food product. Mr. William Biggs, President of LI-COR, was hired as part of the research team and worked on the development of basic research instruments for the project. A quantum sensor to measure the quantity of light usable to plants for photosynthesis was developed for the project. Scientists from other laboratories around the world began requesting similar instruments, and LI-COR was formed in 1971 to manufacture these sensors and other products. Since then, the LI-COR Environmental Division has become the worldwide leader of research instrumentation for plant sciences by providing high quality instruments that simplify difficult measurements and processes. These instruments provide a broad spectrum of capabilities that range from the measurement of photosynthesis rates by plant physiologists and ecologists, to underwater spectroradiometric light measurement by oceanographers and limnologists. LI-COR infrared CO2 analyzers have rapidly become world standards in atmospheric and oceanographic research. Instruments manufactured by the Environmental Division are used in over 100 countries, and are supported by a broad network of trained distributors and agents.
